Getting in and around Leipzig

Leipzig is easy to get to by all means of transportation. The conference will take place in the “Kongresshalle am Zoo”, from the central train station only 3 tram stops or just over a 10-minute walk.

Getting to Kongresshalle am Zoo

Train: Leipzig central station is located in the centre of Leipzig and is among the largest and most modern in Europe. You can get specific timetable and booking information to Leipzig from the Deutschen Bahn as well as the regional Mitteldeutschen Verkehrsverbund. Getting from the train station to the Kongresshalle is quick and easy on foot or by tram (see below).

Coach: Coaches arrive at the “Fernbusterminal Leipzig” (coach station), located on the east side of the central train station.

Car: Arriving from directions north or east of Leipzig, you will arrive at the Kongresshalle and the parking garage “Zoo-Parkhaus” via Parthenstrasse. Arriving from directions south and west, first head towards the city centre “Zentrum” and then follow signs to the zoo. Please note that Parthenstrasse is one-way street at the parking garage; use the parking garage address and/or follow signs. The entrance to the Kongresshalle is directly across the street from the parking garage and next to the entrance to the zoo. You can find more details and parking fees here.

Plane: The airport Leipzig/Halle is about 16 km from the city centre. It is about 20 minutes from the airport to the Kongresshalle by rental car or taxi via highway A14. The local trains (S-Bahn) S 5 and S 5X connect the airport to the central station in 15 minutes (every 30 minutes, 4.90 EUR); please check the Mitteldeutschen Verkehrsverbund or Deutschen Bahn website for details. A taxi stand is located at Terminal B as well as at the Kongresshalle.

Tram: Tram 12 (tram stop: Zoo). From central station, take Tram 12 towards Gohlis-Nord three stops. Trams leave every 10 minutes, and the ride is 6 minutes. Further information can be found here: Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe.

Bikesharing: Nextbike is Leipzig‘s largest bikesharing provider. Bicycles are distributed throughout central Leipzig and need not be docked at a station. Leipzig has an extensive network of bike paths and, without many hills, is an easy city for bicyclists.

Getting to the UFZ

for the excursion/advanced trainings on 25 March 2020

Address: Permoserstr. 15, 04318 Leipzig

Car: Highway A14 (Exit Leipzig-Ost), towards city centre (Zentrum)  to Permoserstrasse 15.

Tram: From central station, take Tram 3 or 3E towards Taucha or Sommerfeld to tram stop Torgauer/ Permoserstraße (Wissenschaftspark). Proceed towards the wall mural marking the science park campus, and walk eastwards along Permoserstrasse. The public entrance to the UFZ is about 300 meters down the street on your left.
