  itself and the role of evaluation in development projects. A brief overvi
 ew will be given over major types of evaluations and their key elements\, 
 which are the problem analysis\, the theory of change\, the project cycle\
 , the logical framework\, and the criteria of the OECD Development Assista
 nce Committee (&bdquo\;Relevance&ldquo\;\, &bdquo\;Effectiveness&ldquo\;\,
  &bdquo\;Efficiency&ldquo\; and &bdquo\;Sustainability&ldquo\;). After tha
 t\, outcomes from recent evaluations of larger programmes of international
  organizations with an environmental focus will be introduced\, for instan
 ce of&nbsp\; GEF\, UNDP\, EU\, UNCCD and the German DEVAL Institute. In th
 e second part\, typical methods applied in&nbsp\; evaluations will be disc
