DESCRIPTION:The question under which circumstances some statistical operati
 on is valid\,i.e.\, rightfully applicable to geographic information for a 
 given purpose\, isnot only crucial for understanding and correctly applyin
 g statistics to spatialdata\, it is also a major bottleneck in automating 
 data science in Geographyand the Geosciences. Conceptual models of geograp
 hic information arerequired for both handling geodata resources as well as
  geographic ques-tion answering (geoQA). In this talk\, I argue that we ne
 ed better modelsof quantities in spatial information. I present a novel th
 eory of geographicamounts that can be used to classify data sources and to
  constrain possibledata transformations to those valid for a certain purpo
