DESCRIPTION:After a presentation of the brief history and the present statu
 s of \nmicrometeorological research activities in Hungary our field \nmeas
 urement programs\, instrumentation and flux calculation \nmethodology are 
 presented. The research group consists of people \nfrom the Hungarian Mete
 orological Service and different universities\, \nwho work in close intern
 ational cooperation. \nField experiments using the gradient and the profil
 e methods \nhave been started 17 years ago. First\, the daily and annual 
 \nvariations of deposition velocities and fluxes of ozone\, nitrogen \noxi
 des and sulfur dioxide were investigated above grassland and \nspruce fore
 st. Based on this measured data set an ozone deposition \nmodel for Hungar
 y was also developed and tested.\nMeasurement and modeling of deposition p
 rocesses of \nnitrogen compounds\, first of all that of ammonia were inves
 tigated in \nHortobágy puszta in the frame of the EU4-GRAMINAE program \n(
 1999-2002). Ammonia bi-directional flux shows net deposition in \nannual t
 ime scale. Net emission of ammonia was detected daytime\, \nduring the veg
 etation period when the stomata are open. \nMeasurements and model calcula
 tions suggest\, ammonia is emitted \nmostly through stomata since the soil
  emission is limited below the \nsoil pH 8\, where all of ammonia exists i
 n the form of ammonium ion. \nThe effect of high nitrogen load (applicatio
 n of mineral fertilizer) was \nalso investigated. High ammonia emission wa
 s detected daytime for \nfew weeks of application of fertilizer. \nContinu
 ous energy\, water\, carbon and nitrogen budget \nmeasurements have been c
 arried out in the frame of the EU5 \nGREENGRASS and EU6 NitroEurope projec
 ts in the central part of \nthe country (Bugac puszta) above a semi-natura
 l grassland\, since \n2002. One of the main aim of these investigations wa
 s to reduce the \nlarge uncertainties in CO2\, N2O and CH4-fluxes within t
 he atmosphere \nand grassland under different climate conditions. Meteorol
 ogical \ndata were collected on the basis of 30 minute average. The eddy-
 \ncovariance system used for calculation of momentum\, CO2\, sensible \nan
 d latent heat fluxes consisted of a sonic anemometer and a Li-Cor \n7500 o
 pen path CO2/H2O infrared gas analyzer. Nitrous oxide and \nmethane emissi
 ons are also measured using static soil chambers. \nProfile measurements o
 f ozone and nitrogen oxides (NO\, NOx) and \ndynamic chamber measurements 
 for nitric oxide have been started \nin 2006. Nitric oxide and nitrous oxi
 de soil emissions amount \napproximately 10% of the total (wet and dry) de
 position of nitrogen \ncompounds. \nIn the last part of the presentation t
 he development of a new \nHungarian reference climate network is illustrat
 ed\, to detect the \npossible effects of future climate change\, consists 
 of both regular \nstandard measurement program for climate stations and so
 il\, \nradiation as well as energy budget measurements.
