Celebrating Biogeography Research 2026
University of Bayreuth, Germany | April 29 – May 1, 2026
We warmly invite you to Celebrating Biogeography Research 2026, an international conference dedicated to the vibrant and diverse field of biogeography. The event also hosts the annual meeting of the specialist group Biogeography within the Association for Geography (VGDH). Taking place at the University of Bayreuth, this year’s conference honours Prof. Carl Beierkuhnlein’s retirement and his long-standing contributions to the biogeography community.
The conference features a strong international focus, with keynote lectures by leading scientists, interactive workshops, and a welcoming atmosphere for both early-career and established researchers.
The meeting aims to foster communication and collaboration among scientists interested in the geographic variation of nature: from physiological, morphological, and genetic differences among individuals and populations to patterns in biodiversity and biotic composition across spatial gradients. While united by a passion for biogeography, participants often come from diverse academic backgrounds, including ecology, geography, evolutionary biology, paleontology, ecoinformatics, global change biology, and conservation science.

What to expect:
- Wednesday (April 29): Hands-on workshops on cutting-edge methods and approaches
- Thursday & Friday (April 30–May 1): Scientific sessions, posters, and keynote talks
Whether you're working in biogeography or a related discipline, this conference offers a dynamic space to share ideas, build collaborations, and engage with the latest developments in the field.
Join us in Bayreuth to connect, contribute, and be inspired. Registration and abstract submission will open soon!
