Field Trips

Two field trip days (October 12 & 13, 2017) lead into the western part of the Tertiary to Recent Eger Rift System which is today part of the border-crosssing Czech-Bavarian Geopark.  The trips will be conducted by Dr. Andreas Peterek, Geopark-Manager, and Prof. Dr. Ludwig Zöller. Thematically the two field trips are complementary, but they can be booked separately.

 

Field Trip I - 12 October, 2017:

Central Fichtel Mountains, Cheb Basin, and Mariánské Lázně Fault

Topics: Morphotectonics of the Western Bohemian Massif, Tertiary and Middle Pleistocene volcanism, mofettes, swarm earthquakes and geomorphological impacts.

 

  • Leaders: Andreas Peterek, Geopark Bayern-Böhmen, Ludwig Zöller
  • Participants: minimum 20
  • Requirements: please bring with you your ID-card / documents needed for traveling into the Czech Republic
  • Departure: scheduled for 8:00 a.m. at the campus, GEO parking,
    and 8:15 a.m. at Arvena Kongress Hotel, Eduard-Beyerlein-Straße 5a.
  • Return: Arrival to Bayreuth main train station at 5.45 p.m.
  • Costs: 25 Euro (Lunch break not included)

 

Field Trip II - 13 October, 2017:

Western Border Fault Zone of the Bohemian Massif („Franconian Lineament“)

Topics: Tectonics, volcanism, and landscape evolution along the Franconian Lineament as boundary between the Bohemian Massif and the Mesozoic foreland, including river deflections, shift of the European watershed, and asynchronous terrace aggradation (OSL dating).

 

  • Leaders: Andreas Peterek, Geopark Bayern-Böhmen, Ludwig Zöller
  • Participants: minimum 20
  • Departure: scheduled for 8:00 a.m. at the campus, GEO-Parking,
    and 8:15 a.m. at Arvena Kongress Hotel, Eduard-Beyerlein-Straße 5a.
  • Return: Arrival to Bayreuth main train station at 5.00 p.m.
  • Costs: 25 Euro (Lunch break not included)
