Application for travel support by early career researchers and students
We strongly encourage students and early career researchers (ECRs) to attend this important meeting. INTAV has applied to INQUA for funding mainly to support student/ECR travel costs. A limited number of modest grants for students/ECRs is anticipated to enable the LOC to partially support students/ECRs who are not fully funded by host institutions. (The results of the INQUA funding application will be known by mid-late March, 2018; please note that if INTAV is not successful in its application to INQUA then no individual travel grants can be made.) We encourage students and ECRs to try to gain local funding from home institutions, but for those who have shortfalls in funding, or no funding, for travel, then we welcome an application for support using the procedure outlined below. We do not want this application to be onerous, but we have some rules/requirements:
- applicants must be bona fide research students (i.e. typically diploma/masterate/PhD) enrolled in a university, or an ECR (i.e. typically postdoctoral or research fellow)
- applicants must register for the conference and submit an abstract (i.e. plan to present a paper, oral or poster)
- we follow INQUA in defining early-career researchers as graduate students and postgraduates within 8 years of receiving their PhD. This period of 8 years does not take into account periods of time taken not working as an academic or because of taking time off because of family responsibilities (https://www.inqua.org/ecr)
- if applicants are to receive funding from their home institutions for most or all of their travel then they are ineligible to apply to INTAV
- the applications must be endorsed and signed off by your chief supervisor (main advisor) or line manager or equivalent
- grants will be paid by cheque to successful applicants at the conference in June 2018
Application process
In addition to registering for the conference and submitting your abstract, please prepare a letter of application (A4 size, normally no more than 1 page in total) as a Word or PDF file (see below), which should be sent by e-mail as an attachment to intavromania2018@gmail.com by 7 April, 2018. The applicants will be evaluated by a subcommittee of the LOC. All applicants should be notified by 30 April, 2018, and successful applicants will be advised of the amount of the grant to be received.
