WP3: Best Practices of Inquiry Based Science Education: Methods and Activities

The aim of this workpackage is to present a series of exemplary teaching practices, resources and applications that provide students with experiences enabling them to achieve scientific literacy. The workpackage provides criteria for assessing and analysing students’ attainments in science and pays attention to learning opportunities that school programmes can afford.

Furthermore the workpackage aims to support the community of practitioners by presenting effective teachers preparation and professional development programmes.

In the framework of the project the proposed Best Practices will be organised in four main categories:

  1. Effective Educational Activities based on Inquiry Based Approaches (school based)
  2. Educational Activities that promote school – science centre and museum collaboration
  3. Educational Activities that promote school – research centre collaboration
  4. Effective Teachers Preparation and Professional Development Program

The Best Practices will facilitate the extended training procedure that the Pathway project aims to implement (WP5) and the process will be validated systematically (WP7).

Expected results (public reports)

The workpackage will deliver a set of guidelines for the educational community to further explore and exploit the unique benefits of IBSE. This work will be finally documented in the report “The Pathway to Inquiry Based Science Education”, the major outcome of the project.
