Research interests

Butterflies (PhD thesis)

  • Impact of habitat fragmentation and connectivity on butterfly diversity in calcareous grasslands.
  • Parasitism rates of butterflies with respect to habitat size and landscape context.
  • Genetic diversity of butterflies in highly isolated and well-connected landscapes.

Colias alfacariensis – specialist butterfly
on calcareous grasslands

A calcareous grassland

Polyommatus icarus – almost ubiquitous
butterfly species
Management of calcareous grasslands by
sheep and goats

Further interests:

  • Multitrophic interactions, e.g. plant-herbivore-parasitoid-(hyperparasitpoid-)predator interactions in rose galls.
  • Butterfly monitoring, butterfly dispersal etc.
