Plant evolutionary genomics: from adaptations to mating system supergenes

Why and how do plants evolve ‘endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful’, along environmental gradients, and from flowers to carnivorous traps?

I study how plants diversify and adapt to their environments by linking molecular data with ecological and organismic perspectives. My work focuses on evolutionary questions such as how supergenes and sex chromosomes evolve, and how novel, complex plant traits, develop, evolve and diversify. Using field studies, greenhouse experiments, and genome sequencing of wild populations and species, I aim to uncover the processes that connect genetic variation with ecological function and evolutionary innovation.

As a new BayCEER member, I look forward to explore interdisciplinary connections between ecology, evolution, and environmental change.

The BayCEER Colloquium serves as an interdisciplinary platform for students, academics and interested citizens: during the lecture period, guests and members of BayCEER give insights into their research, which can then be discussed in plenary and in a relaxed atmosphere during the post-colloquium.
