DESCRIPTION:Fundamentals of synchrotron-based X-ray spectro(micro)scopy and
planned applications to understand cryptic redox-cycles in biofilms\, sed
iments and soils\nIn the first part of the presentation I will explain the
  basics of synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectro(micro)scopy (XAS). T
his includes how (spatially resolved) information on chemical speciation t
hat is obtained by XAS\, can be used to derive information on environmenta
l processes and reaction mechanisms. \nIn the second part I will explain w
hat kind of research I have planned during my Heisenberg-Professorship. In
the proposed projects\, I would like to apply – amongst others – the prev
iously mentioned approaches to understand so-called cryptic redox cycles o
n the µm-scale\, and how they affect element cycling in the environment. T
hereby I will focus on representative model systems such as biofilms\, sed
iments and water-saturated soils.\n \n- Vortrag im Rahmen des Berufungsver
fahrens für die eingeworbene Heisenberg-Professur -
