DESCRIPTION:Improving plant nutrient acquisition will be crucial for sustai
 ning crop production while reducing fertilizer inputs in the context of gl
 obal change. Carbon compounds released by the roots into the rhizosphere\,
  the soil directly influenced by plant roots\, play a central role in nutr
 ient mobilization. Up to now it remains poorly understood how cultivars of
  major crops adjust root exudation and nutrient-acquisition in response to
  water and nutrient limitation\, and how these responses vary among soil t
 ypes and nutrient sources\, particularly organic nutrient pools.\nIn this 
 preasentation\, I will show how carbon released by roots influences plant 
 access to soil nitrogen and phosphorus. I will examine rhizosphere priming
  and microbial necromass recycling as pathways for plant nitrogen acquisit
 ion. Addtionally\, I will explore how rice genotypes access contrasting or
 ganic and inorganic P sources and how drought\, rewetting and soil texture
  affect the quantity and composition of root exudates of modern and landra
 ce maize cultivars. Methodologically\, I will introduce stable-isotope tra
 cing to quantify belowground carbon allocation and nutrient turnover\, zym
 ography to map nutrient-mobilizing enzyme activity\, and soil-based root-e
 xudate sampling to characterize exudate quantity and composition.

 stigates thefragmentation of plastics during sediment transport and its im
 plications for the release of chemical additives. Using a combination of l
 aboratory-based fragmentation experiments and field analyses in river syst
 ems\, complemented by marine sampling\, we quantify how different transpor
 t processes control plastic fragmentation and surface abrasion. Bylinking 
 fragmentation dynamics to leaching behavior\, the project aims to betterco
 nstrain how sedimentary conditions influence additive release. Ultimately\
 , this work improves predictions of microplastic distribution and associat
 ed chemical impacts inenvironmental systems.
