DESCRIPTION:Colombia hosts more than 10% of all species on Earth and ranks
among the three most biodiverse countries. In this talk\, I will provide s
ome of the geo-ecological background important for understanding Colombia`
s biological richness and highlight some of the major threats. Then I will
discuss the challenges that emerge for biodiversity conservation from the
countries complex socio-ecological settings and the dynamics that are cur
rently generated through the peace process. I argue that integrated and tr
ans-disciplinary research is needed to address the challenges for biodiver
sity conservation. Finally\, I will provide an overview of my own research
as well as opportunities for potential collaboration.\n \n*** invited by
Anke Jentsch as International Junior Research Fellow of the University of
 Bayreuth
