The Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Earth Sciences at the University of Bayreuth, Germany seeks to recruit a

 

Postdoctoral scientist

at the Chair of Plant of Ecology

(full time, Remuneration category: EG 13 TV-L or A 13, Starting date 01.08.2020).

 

This initial contract is for 3 years, but there is possibility to extend the contract as stipulated in the Bavarian “Hochschulgesetz”.

The Chair of Plant Ecology conducts research and teaching in the field of terrestrial plant ecology. We use empirical experimentation, field and satellite monitoring combined with statistical and dynamic modelling to address problems in global change ecology. Examples of current research themes are functional diversity, niche conservatism, leaf phenology, species distribution modelling, alternative ecosystem states and biome shifts.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to these research activities, teach 5 hours per week during the semester, and contribute to the coordination and administration of teaching activities. Candidates are required to hold a doctoral degree in Plant Ecology or closely related field. A willingness and ability to conduct field courses and field excursions is expected. A good knowledge of the local flora or an aptitude to learn it fast is required.

The position allows candidates to further their qualification, specifically there is the opportunity to complete a scientific qualification (Habilitation). The appointment will be in accordance with the Bavarian “Hochschulpersonalgesetz”.
