The following detailed questions shall be answered in this work package:

• What are the validity limits of different concepts to describe terrain heterogeneity?
• At which altitude in the CBL does the surface influence vanish. On what parameters does this altitude depend?
• How can the relevant heterogeneity scale be characterised?
• Under which conditions and at which locations did internal boundary layers occur during STINHO-2 and LITFASS-2003 and how did they develop in time and space?
