Interdisziplinäres Atmosphäre Ökosystem Experiment in Kema, Tibetisches Hochplateau

KEMA 2012

Von 06/2012 bis 09/2012

Experimentleiter: Thomas Foken, Georg Guggenberger, Yakov Kuzyakov, Christoph Leuschner, Karsten Wesche, Yaoming Ma, Yongping Yang

From July till September 2012 the Atmosphere-Ecology-Glacier (AEG) cluster within TiP (DFG SPP 1372) conucted an interdisciplinary Experiment on the Tibetan Plateau. Collaborating scientist  were from the University of Göttingen (Departments of Plantecology and Soil Sience), the University of Hanover (Institute of Soil Sience), the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History in Görlitz, University of Bayreuth (Department of Micrometeorology), the Institute of Tibeten Plateau Reseauch (ITP) and Beijing Normal University.

The research area is located in a small village, Kema, 350 km Northeast of Lhasa, at an alltitude of 4400 m a.s.l., in the center of the major distribution of Kobresia pygmaea. The researchers were based at the Naqu Ecological and Environmental Obsevation and Research Station in Kema, which was build during a cooperation between the University of Marburg and Tibet University (TU) and is now run by the TU and the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP) form the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS).

One objective of the experiment  in 2012 was to investigate the influence of different land surface cover on evaporation and CO2 Flux, which was measured by lysimeters and LiCor Chambers. The effects of drought were simulated within a roof experiment. In order to quantify effects of different grazing intensities on vegetation dynamics on fences have been set up in 2009 and 2010. To see the different dynamics of the ecosystem a variety of labeling experiments have been conducted.

The work was carried out in the framework of the DFG Program SPP 1372 (TiP) and the EU Program CEOP-AEGIS
