Rhizodeposition is an important energy source for soil microorganisms and may increase plant nutrient availability. It is therefore crucial to estimate the distribution of root derived carbon in rhizosphere soil. The aim of this project is to study the factors affecting the extension of rhizosphere. In particular we study how root traits such as root hairs and mucilage secretion and the water related properties of the rhizosphere mediate the distribution of root exudates.

Project: Root exudation and the biophysics of the rhizosphere (DFG, Project No. 276325198; Ev. Studienwerk Villigst), see our research projects.
