The atmospheric input of N is an important issue in studies investigating the nitrogen cycle in ecosystems. There are three pathways of atmospheric input, (i) dry deposition (gaseous and particulate), (ii) wet deposition (through rain or snow), and (iii) fog deposition. Important nitrogen compounds for atmospheric input  are nitrate (NO
3-) and ammonium (NH
4+) in the particle and the liquid phases, nitrogen oxides (NO, NO
2) in the gas phase, and nitric acid (HNO
3) in all three phases. However, little is known about the phase distribution of N for Northeastern Bavaria. In order to estimate the flux of N from the atmosphere to the ecosystem, we will measure N in all phases, particularly in relation to meteorological and airchemical conditions. Interpretation of data will be done by using a thermodynamic model.
