Global Biogeographical Patterns within the Genus Pinus

Pine trees are important key species in many forest ecosystems of the Northern hemisphere. Ranging from widespread species with continental distribution areas to small-scale endemics on continents and islands, the genus comprehends a high diversity of more than 110 species. Functional traits of these species are analysed and global patterns of ecological adaptations are shown using GIS/ Databank interfaces. This knowledge may contribute to a better understanding of recent ecological constraints and future capacities for adaptation.
