The influence of leaf wetness on the depostion velocity of water soluble gases

From 01/1998 to 12/2000

The influence of leaf wetness on the deposition velocity of water-soluble trace gases is investigated by use of leaf wetness clip sensors. For these sensors we developed an algorithm to compute leaf wetness as a quantitative, continuously measurable parameter that can be usefully applied in ecosystem research. Throughout the year 1998, we conducted measurements at three ecosystem research sites in Germany and the Netherlands. By use of the acquired data, we will develop a "climatology" of leaf wetness and further characterize it as a parameter in plant ecology and micrometeorology. Further, we conducted laboratory tests to prepare the intensive field experiments of the spring, summer, and fall seasons 1999.
