Expertise:

  • Characterization of biogenic iron oxide and sulfide minerals in order to understand their formation and geochemical significance
  • Study of individual atmospheric aerosol particles for a better understanding of their roles in climate change
  • Transmission electron microscopy techniques for the characterization of the physical and chemical properties of minerals at the nanoscale

Research possibilities at the University of Pannonia, Veszprém, Hungary Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences

MethodsFIMIN context

Methods (facilities) that can be used at the department:

  • Atomic force microscopy (Picoscan AFM with magnetic AC mode)
  • X-ray powder diffraction
  • X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy
  • Chemistry lab for the synthesis of nanoparticles and for chemical experiments with iron minerals

Methods that we use elsewhere (at the Research Institute for Technical Physics and Materials Science, Budapest):

  • Analytical transmission electron microscopy, including energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry and electron energy-loss spectroscopy

We study the physical and chemical properties of iron minerals at the nanoscale.
