To determine the range of uncertainty in the estimation of long-term dynamics of forest stands in a changing climate an intercomparison of model results was undertaken within the framework of the EU-project LTEEF. As model predictions using different models for the same stands varied widely the dynamic was investigated on the smaller scales of the leaf and the canopy. It can be shown that also on these scales model results differ considerably and there was evidence that these differences transform to the stand level output. In this simulation study we based two very different forest stand simulation models, TRAGIC and TREEDYN3, on the same biochemical description of photosynthesis at the leaf scale and examined long-term predictions of net primary productivity and cumulative standing biomass as well as height growth curves under the hypothetical influence of climate change.
