New DFG project on non-equilibrium water flow
01.02.2026
We are delighted to announce that the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) has approved funding for our new collaborative research project on non-equilibrium water flow processes.
The project is a joint endeavour with partners Dr. Sascha Iden and Prof. Dr. Ilhan Özgen at TU Braunschweig and will run for three years. Together, the team will investigate the fundamental physics governing water transport under non-equilibrium conditions — phenomena central to subsurface hydrology, porous media dynamics, and environmental fluid mechanics. By combining theoretical, experimental, and numerical approaches, the project aims to advance our understanding of preferential flow pathways, dynamic capillary effects, and hysteresis in unsaturated systems.
We look forward to the exciting science and collaboration ahead!
