Atmospheric Chemistry

 

Welcome to the website of the “Atmospheric Chemistry Group” at Bayreuth University and the Bayreuth Center of Ecology and Environmental Research (BayCEER)!

Exchange processes between the Earth’s surface and the atmosphere shape the habitat we live in. Incoming solar radiation conducts a day-night-rhythm and hence the photosynthetic cycle of the green vegetation. Forests create fresh oases through evaporation. As their emissions oxidize in air, they cover up in blue haze. Long drought, extreme storms and heavy rainfall impact the great ecosystems and modify them on the long term. Traces of human activities impact many processes at the interface between Earth’s surface and atmosphere. This growing human impact, will challenge and change this liveable habitat now and even more in the future.

Research and education of the “Atmospheric Chemistry Group” at Bayreuth University aims to analyse this interplay between the Earth’s surface and atmosphere – in detail, fundamentally, experimentally, in the large context.
