Together with the project founders Prof. Helge Bruelheide (University of Halle & iDiv) and Dr. Oliver Purschke (iDiv) coordinator Prof. Jürgen Dengler (BayCEER/University of Bayreuth & iDiv) could announce the launch of the global vegetation-plot database sPlot 2.0 in January 2016.
The sPlot database currently contains over 1.1 million plots from 110 source databases originating from all seven continents and a total of 130 countries. The plot data are linked to the most recent version of the global plant trait database TRY via a unified taxonomic backbone standardizing more than 100,000 species names. This unique data collection will open new avenues for analyses of functional composition of plant communities across the world’s biomes, but also for macroecolgical studies in general.
sPlot is hosted by the German Centre of Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) Halle-Jena-Leipzig, and is a collaborative project of hundreds of contributors around the world. For all relevant further project information, see:
