Can carbon payment schemes stop the spread of industrial agriculture in South-East Asia?
eingeladen von Ingolf Steffan-Dewenter
Over the last few decades, oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) agriculture has expanded very rapidly in Southeast Asia. In this presentation, I discuss the environmental and socioeconomic opportunities and trade-offs of oil palm development in Southeast Asia. In particular, I will discuss the promise and limitations of the carbon payment scheme known as REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) for ameliorating the impacts of oil palm expansion.
