Public farewell lecture by Professor Franz Bogner

2025-04-24

On Wednesday, 30 April 2025, Professor Dr Franz Bogner (Didactics of Biology and Chemistry at the University of Bayreuth) will give a lecture on ‘The rocky road to environmental citizenship’ as part of his farewell lecture.

Date/time/location: Wednesday, 30 April 2025, 5 p.m., lecture room H14, building Naturwissenschafen I (NW I). Interested persons are cordially invited. Admission is free, registration is required at Bettina.wiegner@uni-bayreuth.de

About the event: The ceremony will be opened by the President of the University of Bayreuth, Professor Dr Stefan Leible, and moderated by Professor Dr Jürgen Paul (Didactics of Biology and Chemistry, University of Bayreuth). Professor Dr Volker Ulm (Mathematics and its Didactics, University of Bayreuth), Head of the Centre for Teacher Education (ZLB), will look back on the joint years of STEM teacher education. Professor Dr Florian Kaiser (Guericke University Magdeburg) will then explain Prof Bogner's field of research, before Professor Dr Franz Bogner presents three decades of environmental education research under the title ‘The rocky road to environmental citizenship’ in its most important branching decisions, which ultimately led to the NARST Award, the highest US research prize for a German biology didactician.

The ceremony is intended to be both a retirement and a debut. Following his age-related retirement from day-to-day business after two decades at the university, Professor Bogner's appointment as Emeritus of Honour last year was the basis for his entry into further research projects. A new EU project is currently being put together with eleven European partners from eight countries, coordinated by the Ministry of Culture in Athens. It is the continuation of an ongoing EU project that is currently being led from Bayreuth.
