Research on the state of chemical and environmental safety in Ukraine

Environmental protection and environmental safety is one of the priorities of the Government of Ukraine. Coordination of activities to solve environmental problems is carried out by the Ministry of Ecology of Ukraine. However, issues of cleanliness and safety of the environment are addressed within the work of other ministries in their areas of activity. Environmental departments work in local administrations. Scientific institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, branch academies of sciences, higher educational establishments are engaged in introduction of new technologies and new methods of control of ecological safety in Ukraine.

Chemical safety of the environment is one of the most important aspects of environmental protection. Therefore, much attention in research in this area is paid to the development of new methods of analysis, their practical application for environmental monitoring and assessment of safety for human health. New methods for use in specialized laboratories to control the purity of air, water, soil, agricultural raw materials, and food are considered by the State Standard of Ukraine, approved by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Ecology. These techniques are used to control the state of pollution in the elimination of such chemically hazardous objects as warehouses of unusable and prohibited pesticides, other toxic substances, control of air pollution at chemically hazardous enterprises, surface and drinking water.

Public organizations, in particular the Chromatographic Society of Ukraine, deal with environmental protection and control issues. The task of the Society is to develop contacts between scientists and specialists working in scientific institutions of the relevant profile, to disseminate information about modern research in this field. For this purpose, the Society holds scientific conferences with the participation of domestic and foreign scientists, publishes a scientific journal.
