Research at the Chair of Plant Ecology ranges from experiments, through observational field studies and makroecological analyses using large database to methods development and simulations. Recent topics are a multi-species mesocosm experiment on emerging diversity patterns along the hydrological gradient, field experiments on optimal management of an invasive species in grasslands, observational studies on scale-dependence of drivers of plant diversity, usage of large vegetation-plot databases to understand plant community assembly, small-grain species diversity patterns and plant invasion, comparative global analyses of plant and animal diversity and endemism as well as development of tools (such as the Ecological Indicator Values of Europe) and databases for vegetation ecologists.
