Klaus Töpfer awarded Wilhelmine-von Bayreuth-Prize

2012-11-16

The City of Bayreuth awarded Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer during the forum for the future about "Water in a changing world" on 16 November 2012 with the Wilhelmine-von-Bayreuth-Prize. Watch the ceremony (unfortunately, in German only).

Brigitte Merk-Erbe, mayor of the city of Bayreuth, and Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Bormann, president of the University Bayreuth opened the ceremony, then handed over to Dirk Steffens. The wildlife filmer honoured the laureate with a detailed and personal laudation. Klaus Töpfer thanked the City of Bayreuth for the award and reported from the experiences he made during his work for UNEP in Africa. He asked to give Africa more time for his development and highlighted what Western countries could learn from the continent.

The ceremony finished off the forum for the future, an event full of interesting presentations and discussions. Students of the M. Sc. programme Global Change ecology contributed to the forum with an interactive exhibition on "Virtual Water".
