Soil aggregation is an important ecosystem process that is
influenced by a number of abiotic and biotic factors. Among the
latter, arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi have been receiving
particular attention. AM fungi can influence soil aggregation in a
number of ways, including direct effects of the mycelium (physical
and biochemical), as well as effects mediated by interaction with
other soil biota (e.g., bacteria and microarthropods). Manifestations
of AM effects on soil structure and mechanisms responsible for
those are the focus of this seminar.
