Demo 1:

Plant canopy and rhizosphere 13CO2 measurements by isotope laser spectroscopy

Frederik Wegener1, Christiane Werner1
1 Agrarökosystemforschung, Uni Bayreuth

We present a canopy/rhizosphere chamber system that allows independent measurements of above and belowground d13CO2-exchange. The system consists of up to three whole-plant gas-exchange chambers with two gas-tight separated compartments (aboveground/belowground), a valve system for automated measurements and a cavity ring-down spectrometer (CRDS). CRDS is an optical spectroscopic technique that enables online measurements of 12CO2 and 13CO2 concentrations. This approach allows the calculation of carbon fluxes and isotope fractionation during photosynthesis and respiration on a whole plant level. In combination with 13C-labelling techniques the system provides information about carbon transport velocity from above- to belowground, carbon pool sizes and residence times.

Demo 2:

BayEOS: Building up a wireless, solar powered sensor network

Oliver Archner1, Gerhard Müller1, Stefan Holzheu1
1 BayCEER, Uni Bayreuth

Based on the low cost arduino plattform the BayEOS sensor network offers components to build up a wireless, solar powered online data aquisition in just ten minutes. Measured data is automatically imported to a BayEOS server. Using the data browser GOAT or the BayEOS-R-package scientist have a convenient way to access these data.
