Common places of interest

Bayreuth at Upper Franconia is located in Northern Bavaria in the middle of Europe. It features a lively University campus with a beautiful botanical garden, and offers a wealth of cultural gems, among them Richard Wagner's Festspielhaus where the world-famous annual Opera Festival takes place during the summer, the historic Wilhelmine's Markgräfliches Opernhaus with its sumptuous Baroque Festival, but also the products of a centuries-old tradition in excellent beer-brewing.

Bayreuth's surroundings are a great area for hiking in the beautiful sceneries of the Fränkische Schweiz and the Fichtelgebirge Mountains year round, but especially picturesque in late summer. Lovely impressions of Bayreuth's wider environs can also be collected during special bicycle tours, for example on the "Castle" or "River Main" routes. Very rewarding are visits to the vibrant city of Nürnberg with its historic imperial castle (Kaiserburg), great museums and renowned zoo, and to the historic city of Coburg with its giant castle (Veste Coburg), as well as to the city of Bamberg, acknowledged as world cultural heritage.

We will be happy to offer advice for individual tours before and after the meeting. Depending on the final scientific program there may also be time for some social activities in or around Bayreuth during the meeting.
