In the course of the extension of the highway A 70 located nearly to Harsdorf palaeochannels of the Haselbach were unearthed. Several Samples of the palaeochannels as well as of the surrounding sediments were taken as a general basis of the following age dating via Optically Stimulated Luminiscence (OSL), analysis of brash and grain size.

Question: How have changed the runoff behavior of the Haselbach during the preceding times? What are the differences between the current runoff behavior and the former which is reconstructed by science? What kind of human impact have been on the whole ecological system of the Haselbach?

Therefor besides an age dating via the Optically Stimulated Luminiscence (OSL) an analysis of the grain size on each sediment was accomplished to classify the sediments into the correct age. An accomplishment of a quantitative brash analysis of the outcrop as well as of the current riverbed was of great importance to the reconstruction of the runoff. Furthermore measurements of the quantity of flowing water took place in two locations of the Haselbach. This is the basis of getting comparable parameters to the former, calculated flow made by the reconstructions. Via the high variety of used methods the relocations of the Haselbach were well determined. This is the reason why also clues of human influence on the Haselbach´s catchment area could be found. So the hydrological researches of the Haselbach could serve as a case study transferred to other flow and river systems.
