INTRODUCTION

Very impressive progress in open source data platforms and software has been achieved in last years. On the other side artificial intelligence (AI) applications are promising and have potential in making serious change in our day life applications. AI sometimes requires “training datasets” and usually a case study or a problem is divided into “features”. So as to accelerate research of AI in hydrogeology such data should be available and easily accessible to researchers. This study highlights:

1- Current available open source data

2- Successful experiences of open source software that was developed by a type of community-based open-source project.

3- Mechanism to be applied to make open source data of hydrogeology to accelerate AI in hydrogeology.

Statement of problem

There is a serious gap between available open source data of spatial, surface water features, remote sensing data from one side and hydro-geology data from the other side. Such situation makes it difficult to get training datasets required for development of artificial intelligence for hydrogeology applications.

GOALS

The primary goals of this study were to:

1) Summarize open source data sources and artificial intelligence communities that are helpful for hydro-geologist researchers interested in AI.

2) Mapping gaps of available data sources for hydrogeology AI and propose a community based platform for providing hydrogeology data in a global level to accelerate AI research in hydrogeology.
