The award-winning researchers are:
- Prof. Christian Laforsch
- Dr Martin Löder
- Dr Qingsong Wang
"A total of 363 scientists in Germany were included in the list – the fact that three of them are from the University of Bayreuth is a particular success and underlines the international visibility and influence of research at the University of Bayreuth," says Prof. Dr Dr h.c. Stefan Leible, President of the University of Bayreuth.
With Prof. Laforsch and Dr. Martin Löder, two scientists from the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1357 Microplastics are among this year's honourees. Prof. Dr. Christian Laforsch is Chair of Animal Ecology I, a member of the Bayreuth Centre of Ecology & Environmental Research (BayCEER) and spokesperson for Collaborative Research Centre 1357 Microplastics. Dr. Martin Löder works in the same research group, is also a member of BayCEER and CRC Microplastics, where he heads the Keylab for Microplastics Analysis. This is the second time that Prof. Laforsch has received this award, and the fourth time in a row for Dr. Löder.
Dr. Qingsong Wang is also new to the list. He is a junior research group leader at the Chair of Inorganic Active Materials for Electrochemical Energy Storage under Prof. Dr. Matteo Bianchini. Wang is advancing research into sodium-ion batteries as a cost-effective, sustainable alternative to lithium-ion batteries.
The list is compiled annually by Clarivate Analytics and is considered one of the most important international recognitions of scientific excellence. It shows which researchers are significantly shaping the development of their disciplines through their work.
