We are offering two tourism packages as part of the conference. Registration for these is possible at the conference office during check-in and until Tuesday, September 26th, 2023, 12:00 p.m.


 1. Guided Tour through Haus Wahnfried - Richard Wagner's Residence

Haus Wahnfried, occupied by Richard Wagner and his family in 1874, and the life there were entirely in tune with the bourgeois ethos of the late 19th century - complemented by the very special cultural sphere that emanated from the composer, who also emphasised his exceptional status.

The rooms of the representative villa are grouped around a dominant entrance hall and the great hall, attracting an illustrious crowd of visitors from the fields of culture, politics and economics.

2. Guided Tour Iwalewahaus

On this tour, we will meet with the unexpected, the beauty, happiness, silence, noise, glitch, new and old stories interwoven with the Iwalewahaus and the collection.

As a unit of the Institute of African Studies at the University of Bayreuth, the Iwalewahaus maintains a collection of modern and contemporary visual arts from Africa, Asia and the Pacific Area that is unique within Germany. By doing academic research and teaching, developing exhibitions, by taking care of the collection and the archive as well as providing residencies for artists, recent developments in contemporary African and Diaspora culture and fine arts are documented, presented and actively developed in cooperation with artists and institutions since 1981.

The current exhibition “Floating Assemblies” provides different insights into contemporary artistic expression from South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Germany.

3. Guided Tour "Colonial Bayreuth"

Bayreuth's industrial prosperity is heavily based on colonial value added – without cotton, sugar cane or tobacco, the local industrialization would have taken a completely different course. Colonial connections and symbolism also played an important role during the baroque margravial era before. Together we will search for all these traces of colonial Bayreuth.
