Water Balances at Different Scales
Subtitle: „ Climate Change and River Catchment Planning“
The preliminary meeting at Oct 27th will serve to introduce the concept of the seminar to the students and to find out the number of students participating
The Seminar will be splitted into three parts
1) Introduction into the topic “Global Change and Water Management” by Michael Belau (Bavarian Environmental Protection Agency, ca. 2nd or 3rd week in November)
· Water management across borders
· Introduction of the concepts of the ESPACE (European Spatial Planning: Adapting to Climate Events) study with special emphasis on “Flood Protection Planning for the River Fränkische Saale”
· change of paradigms in water management
Homework for students: Prepare presentations on methodology used, such as:
· Hydrological Models
· Statistics
· GIS approaches
2) Presentation of homework (beginning of January) and presentation of results of ESPACE study
Homework: Brainstorming by students about the question: Which possibilities exist to cope with the predicted effects of climate change on flood events
3) Presentation of results of brainstorming (end of January, beginning of February)
Literature required to prepare the presentations is partly in English, partly in German. A written summary of the presentation is required at the end of the seminar
