Soil Physics Group

Welcome to the Soil Physics Group!

We are soil physicists passionate about understanding one of Earth's most complex systems. From individual pores to entire landscapes, we combine experiments and mathematical modelling to unravel how water, heat, and solutes move through soils — and how plants interact with them. We tackle both fundamental questions and real-world challenges.

Research Areas

Soil water flow — movement of water through structured soils including preferential flow
Solute and heat transport — coupled transport processes across soil profiles
Soil health modelling — quantifying and predicting soil functions
Soil structure modelling — linking pore-scale architecture to macroscopic behaviour
Plant–soil interactions — root water uptake and rhizosphere processes across scales
Soil–plant–atmosphere modelling — integrated SPAC continuum tools (Daisy, daisy.ku.dk)
