Oxford Nanopore sequencing is a relatively new DNA/RNA sequencing technology. It is best known for its small size - a Nanopore MinION sequencer is approximately the size of a cell phone, and has been taken to some of the most remote locations on the planet and into space. However, Nanopore technology has several other new capabilities that are changing the field of genomics. We offer a brief introduction to the concepts behind Nanopore technology, and some of these exciting capabilities of Nanopore, and how some of us are using it in BayCEER to work with small creatures like microbes and microarthropods.
