New model for biogeochemical activity in wetland systems

New model for biogeochemical activity in wetland systems

2012-12-12

In a "virtual modeling experiment" Sven Frei and colleagues from the Department of Hydrology of the University of Bayreuth showed that the surface micro-topography causes hot spots of biogeochemical activity in wetland systems. An understanding of hydrological and biogeochemical feebacks within wetlands is important to assess future changes in the turnover of nutrients and pollutants in wetland systems.
