Markus Reichstein and Chris Field will be honoured with the Max Planck Research Prize in Berlin on 13 November 2013 for their research into the influence of climate change on ecosystems. Markus Reichstein is head of the Department of Biogeochemical Integration at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena and studies how carbon and water cycles jointly respond to climate. He did his PhD at the University of Bayreuth in 2001 working in the Department of Plant Ecology.
