Prof. Ahawo is a Social Development Consultant with many years of experience ranging from Civil Service in the Government of Kenya to international service for the Commonwealth Secretariat in Belize, Central America, as Gender Data Base Consultant. He completed PhD from the University of Bristol UK in 1999, and has continued with research and development work while teaching Sociology and Social Policy at Maseno University from 2002 to date. Current research interests include social development with specific focus on rural poverty alleviation, social policy, and social development. Membership to professional associations include the International Sociological Association, the Social Policy Association of the UK and the African Social Policy Association, of which he currently is the founder Chairman.
