One ultimate goal of global change research is to predict future states of ecological and climate systems. To achieve that goal, we need to understand mechanisms underlying ecosystem responses and feedback to global change; develop process-based models, and integrate experimental results into models toward predictions. This talk will highlight our research activities and achievements using experimental, modeling, and data assimilation approaches. In particular, I will discuss our work on ecosystem responses and feedback to rising atmospheric CO2, climate warming, and altered precipitation. I will also introduce our recent research focus on data-model fusion toward ecological forecasting.
