Senescence in plants

From 01/1995 to 12/2001Principal Investigator: Ewald Komor

Current research on senescence processes is mainly performed in medical disciplines like gerontology. In other fields like plant biology or microbiology very little is known about this ubiquiteous process. This might be due to the fact that it is very difficult to investigate the basis of a continuously ongoing destruction of living cells of an individual until its death. Although senescence processes are endogenously programmed, they can be modulated to a large extend by environmental factors.
