Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) and Prioritized Wildlife Research Areas

Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) is a parastatal organization under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism responsible for conducting, supervising and coordinating wildlife research in the Country. Its main role is to advice wildlife managers (Rangers/Warden, Ecologists.) on better wildlife management using wildlife research findings. Also, the institute through the research findings obtained has a role of advising the government towards better wildlife policy development.

Our mission is to carry out and coordinate wildlife research in the United Republic of Tanzania with an overall objective of providing scientific information and advice the Government and wildlife management authorities on the sustainable conservation of wildlife, consonant with the national vision 2025, that is sustainable conservation of natural resources. To fulfill these mandates, the institute has developed working tools, of which, one of the tools is the ‘’Tanzania Wildlife Research Agenda. Formulation of wildlife research agenda involves conduction of a workshop that brings together key stakeholders - Rangers/ecologists/Managers, Universities, conservation NGOs to identify research needs and deliberates on priorities.

The BayCEER Colloquium serves as an interdisciplinary platform for students, academics and interested citizens: during the lecture period, guests and members of BayCEER give insights into their research, which can then be discussed in plenary and in a relaxed atmosphere during the post-colloquium.
