Effects of climate change on plants and ecosystem functioning of managed temperate grasslands

Global climate change challenges plants and ecosystem functioning. Grasslands have become a major study object in experimental biodiversity and climate impact studies. The great majority of the existing studies investigated the effects of climate change on primary production. However, studies on how climate changes such as extreme drought, heavy rainfall, inter-annual precipitation variability and seasonal warming affect other ecosystem functioning in temperate grasslands are lacking. Therefore, the presentation will focus on (a) effects of drought and heavy rainfall on ecosystem functioning (b) temporal hierarchy of ecosystem functioning under terminal drought and (c) importance of seasonality of climatic extremes in semi-natural grassland ecosystems.

The BayCEER Colloquium serves as an interdisciplinary platform for students, academics and interested citizens: during the lecture period, guests and members of BayCEER give insights into their research, which can then be discussed in plenary and in a relaxed atmosphere during the post-colloquium.
