Biodiversity conservation under complex socio-ecological settings - the Colombian case
Colombia hosts more than 10% of all species on Earth and ranks among the three most biodiverse countries. In this talk, I will provide some of the geo-ecological background important for understanding Colombia`s biological richness and highlight some of the major threats. Then I will discuss the challenges that emerge for biodiversity conservation from the countries complex socio-ecological settings and the dynamics that are currently generated through the peace process. I argue that integrated and trans-disciplinary research is needed to address the challenges for biodiversity conservation. Finally, I will provide an overview of my own research as well as opportunities for potential collaboration.
