| Abstract: The development of new techniques for nucleic acid analysis allows insights into complex microbial communities. The right choice of analysis tools depends on whether the composition of a microbial community should be deduced from the metagenome or whether the functional activity should be inferred from the metatranscriptome. A recently developed microarray design allows the simultaneous examination of composition and selected functions of a community, and is particularly suitable in ecosystem research. |
