| Abstract: In 2004, the Dry Grassland Working Group was founded to work out the volumes on dry grasslands and related vegetation types within the series ‘Synopsis der Pflanzengesellschaften Deutschlands’ (synopsis of the plant communities of Germany) over the medium-term. With this aim, a TURBOVEG vegetation data base with relevés of the classes Koelerio-Corynephoretea, Festuco-Brometea, Violetea calaminariae, Elyno-Seslerietea and Trifolio-Geranietea sanguinei from Germany will be set up. Subse- quently, we plan to re-classify these communities with a consistent and uniform methodology. Persons wanting to collaborate in the Working Group or to contribute data are most welcome. Moreover, the Working Group is organising annual meetings on varying topics related to dry grasslands. The first such symposium was held in September 2004 in Lüneburg under the theme ‘Dry grasslands as biodiversity hotspots’. Five of the contributions from this symposium are presented here. |
